Only three of four candidates for the 9-councilor positions won seats in the School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) Student Council (SC) special elections held on Saturday, March 25 because the last candidate garnered only 48 votes and lost to abstain votes.
A candidate should gain the plurality of all the votes cast in order to get a position, according to the College Student Electoral Board (CSEB).
A total of 113 out of 354 SLIS students voted. The elections had a turnout of 28.609 percent, with 49.029 percent of undergraduate students and 3.797 percent of graduate students participating.
Kendrik Philipp Sio and Simon Philip Sacramento won the chair and vice-chair’s position, respectively. The voting period officially started at 8AM, and ended smoothly without technical difficulties by 6 PM.
The SLIS SC College Student Electoral Board (CSEB) will accept electoral protests regarding the results only until noon of April 5. ■
