Clinching 12 out of 34 positions, UP Alyansa ng mga Mag-aaral para sa Panlipunang Katwiran at Kaunlaran (UP ALYANSA) will lead the UP Diliman University Student Council (UPD USC) next academic year.
UP ALYANSA’s Benjie Allen Aquino will serve as the next USC Chairperson, garnering 4,143 votes against Nagkakaisang Iskolar para sa Pamantasan at Sambayanan sa UP (KAISA UP) candidate Leandro Anton Castro with 3,547 votes and Student Alliance for the Advancement of Democratic Rights in UP (STAND UP) candidate Ben Galil Te with 2,542.
UP ALYANSA also won six councilors and five college representatives.
Meanwhile, KAISA UP candidate Yael Toribio secured the USC vice chair post with 6,272 votes, beating UP ALYANSA’s Magnolia del Rosario with 2,763 and STAND UP’s Shari Oliquino with 1,829 votes.
KAISA UP won a total of eight seats including the vice chair’s post, three councilors, and four college representatives. STAND UP, on the other hand, clinched nine seats consisting of one councilor, Timothy Brian Black, along eight college representatives.
Independent councilor Carlos Cabaero garnered the most number of votes with 7,525 votes, followed by UP ALYANSA’s Cassie Deluria and Sugar Del Castillo with 5,783 votes and 4,318 votes, respectively.
A total of 11,951 out of 24,036 or 49.72 percent of the eligible voters have cast their ballots, slightly higher than the 49.13 percent recorded last year. ■
