CBA

■ Aldrin Villegas

The Business Administration Council (BAC) chairperson for the next school year is yet to be determined, as sole candidate Jonty Aguila failed to secure the minimum number of votes required to win the post.

Unopposed candidates need at least 50 percent plus one of the total votes cast to be elected into office, according to the Business Administration (BA) Commission on Election (Comelec) rule. With a total of 1,022 votes cast, sole candidates for the college-wide positions must obtain at least 530 votes to be proclaimed.

Aguila fell short by 150 votes, garnering a total of 380 votes against 414 abstentions.  Meanwhile, only two of four hopefuls for the 11 councilor posts won: Pat Gan and Yam Alarde who obtained 595 and 575 votes, respectively.

The BA Rep to the USC post remains in the stronghold of UP Alyansa ng mga Mag-aaral para sa Panlipunang Katwiran at Kaunlaran as Belle Ginez secured 702 votes.

The BAC will hold special elections to fill the remaining seats. Filing of candidacy begins after the Holy Week break.

Polls were opened as scheduled at exactly 8 am and ended at 7 pm. CBA’s voter turnout this year is 77.69 percent, a jump by 21.3% from last year’s 56.39 percent. ■
