Aran Khristian Mendoza of Nagkakaisang Iskolar para sa Pamantasan at Sambayanan is the next College of Science (CS) representative to the University Student Council (USC) after winning in the April 6 polls.
Mendoza garnered 501 votes over Student Alliance for Democratic Rights in UP (STAND UP) candidate Paul Gubalane who got 294 votes. 469 students chose to abstain.
Meanwhile, all 12 candidates of unopposed political party Matatag, Aktibo, Tunay, Tumutugon, Epektibo, Responsable (MATTER) sealed the party’s dominance over CS Student council for the seventh straight year.
Physics student and former Councilor Christian Guevarra clinched the chairperson post with 922 votes, while former Institute of Chemistry Representative Hannah Amoncio is the next vice-chairperson with 855 votes.
A total of 48.73 percent or 1,264 out of 2,594 students voted in the April 6 election, failing to surpass last year’s 50.36 percent turnout. ■
