The UP Alliance for Responsive Involvement and Student Empowerment (ARISE) bets will lead next year’s Engineering Student Council (ESC) after securing the top two posts in the April 6 polls.
Both running unopposed, incumbent Councilor Emmanuel Rodriguez garnered 2,003 votes against 1,074 abstention to clinch the chair post while incumbent Chemical Engineering Representative Frances Gillian Leyson tallied 1,951 votes against 1,126 abstention to get the vice chair post.
ARISE also bagged majority or 24 of the 38 seats, while UP Progressive Responsive Innovative Movement in Engineering (PRIME) got 14.
The Engineering Representatives to the University Student Council will still be deliberated by Engineering’s College Student Electoral Board after the Holy Week break as the abstain votes of 1,347 outnumbered the 1,044 votes received by the top candidate.
For this year’s elections, 3,076 out of 5,869 or 52.41 percent voted, higher than the previous year’s turnout of 50.79 percent.
