Positive student participation in the council elections was recorded this year at the School of Urban and Regional Planning (SURP) and the School of Labor and Industrial Relations (SOLAIR) following the voter turnout increase in both colleges.
SURP recorded a 7.94 percent turnout or 37 out of 466 voters while SOLAIR garnered a 23.27 percent turnout or 81 out of 348 voters.
In 2015, only 2.98 percent of student voters cast their ballots in SURP, while 22.98 percent in SOLAIR.
Voting polls opened at 8 AM but student electors started to arrive at 5:30 PM with most of the classes starting at 6 PM. ■
